My name is Lauren Dukes and I’m a Junior at Lake Havasu High School.

During my 8th grade year at the middle school, I would see these high school kids coming everyday to run on the middle school track. I often wondered, why?

Now that I am at the high school, I realized that we don’t have an all-weather track at our school. In fact, our high school track is so old and rough the concrete curbing around the inside is falling apart. So, our track team must drive across town, everyday during track season, to use the middle school track.

Last year a student was injured in an accident while driving to practice. That accident and the fact that the student had to miss the whole season because of injuries, motivated me to doing something about this dangerous situation.

I approached the school district office with my dream of a new all-weather track and we have formed a committee to try and raise money to build this new track at our high school. I think it will be safer and be a source of pride for our students.

Sincerely,

Lauren Dukes

When it came to my attention that Lauren Dukes was spearheading a campaign to raise money for a new track at the high school, I realized that the K-12 Foundation could assist in this worthy project by providing leadership and organizational strategies.

Our high school track faces a major street in our community with thousands of cars driving by each day. Our students want to be proud of the way their school looks and a new track at the front of the school would be a focal point of pride.

In addition, we cannot host any track meets at our school, because all meets are held on all-weather surfaces.

As a 501c3 organization, we are able to receive tax deductible donations from any number of sources and all of these monies would go directly towards this campaign.

I ask you go give this project serious consideration and help Lauren’s dream come true.

Jim Day
